LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) A 17-year-old died Saturday night after being hit by a car while walking east on Wire Grass Road in Lumberton, according to Sgt. Daniel Hillburn with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Officials say Austin Stevey-Ray Collins was walking with the flow of traffic when he was hit from behind after 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
According to authorities, the suspect who hit Collins was driving a light-colored SUV or van and left the scene. The vehicle is believed to have front end damage.
Collins died at the scene.
