LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – The weather was perfect in Lumberton Saturday for the annual “Rumba on the Lumber” festival.

The event has brought music, movement and food to the downtown area for the last 25-years.

This year’s “Rumba on the Lumber” kicked off with the crowd’s favorite, the largest Michelob Ultra chili-cook off in the Carolinas.

However, the most anticipated event for those attending was the new lumber games, a battle between the fittest in the city.

Event organizers say the event is a great time for families and the community to get out and have a good time.

“I’ve talked to a number of vendors that say this is the biggest crowd we’ve had in Downtown Lumberton on the plaza and in the downtown area. It is the best “Rumba on the Lumber” that we ‘ve ever had” said Hubert Bullard.

Bullard says more than eight-thousand people came out to the festival Saturday, the biggest number they’ve seen in the past 25 years.

The Rumba on the Lumber festival will continue at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Robeson 20-mile Bicycle Adventure, sponsored by Cruzbike. Registration for the event is $30. The Family Fund 5K Bike Ride, sponsored by The Bicycle Shop, will begin at 3:30 p.m. And registration is free. Cycling events will begin and end at Northeast Park on Linkhaw Road.
