High schoolers battle in academic challenge

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Wilson and Lake View High Schools won Saturday’s Pee Dee area Academic Challenge tournaments at Francis Marion University.

More than a dozen high schools competed over the last month, culminating in Saturday’s regional tournament.

Wilson High School

 

After a full morning of matches, the finals were set for the afternoon.

In the Division One final, which consisted of 90 questions, Wilson beat Cheraw High School, 40-25.

In the Division Two final, Lake View beat Hannah-Pamplico, 38-22.

Wilson and Lake View now head to the state tournament on March 17 in Laurens.

Lake View High School

Chesterfield-Ruby and Lake View Middle Schools will represent the Pee Dee in the same state tournament.

The Pee Dee Education Center puts on the Academic Challenge each year.

The Center is a consortium of 16 school districts, Coker College, and Francis Marion University and provides support for the region’s school districts.
