MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – One local group hopes to brighten the Easter holiday season for troops serving overseas.
The Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina packed more than 100 Easter Hero Boxes Saturday.
The group is made up of mothers who have sons or daughters serving in the military.
Lowes foods donated 2,000 mac and cheese cups, Peeps and Oreos.
Conway High School honor society students also lent a hand.
They plan to send the holiday treats to soldiers stationed overseas.
“My son was in Afghanistan for 10 months and he had a four-year old daughter and baby born when he was gone. This is just so special to be able to say, we remember you, we appreciate what you’re doing and the sacrifices your making to all of them,” said Linda Tucker, President of Blue Star Mothers Coastal Carolina.
It costs $16 to ship a package to a soldier overseas. The group was able to team up with local businesses to raise the money needed to not only fill the boxes, but cover most of the shipping costs.
