MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Deputies in New Hanover County say the body of a man found in the Intracoastal Waterway nearly one week ago near Wilmington has been identified as a Myrtle Beach man.
The body of Francis Dellapelle, 61, of Myrtle Beach, was found in the waterway near the Figure Eight Island Bridge about 11:30 a.m. March 23. The body was discovered by a fisherman who called the Coast Guard.
Authorities say Dellapelle’s body was likely in the water for as long as 36 hours before it was found washed up on a sandbar. Dellapelle’s death has been deemed undetermined by the medical examiner until the toxicology has come back, says Lt. Jerry Brewer, with New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
