MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Spring is has sprung, and the sun and warmer temperatures have some people thinking about updating their lawn. Matt Freedman, President of Beach Landscaping, joined News 13 Now at 9 a.m. Tuesday to give some tips for springtime planting. He says the first step is: wait. He says one of the best things you can do for your lawn is to hold off on planting anything new until after the risk of frost has passed, especially annual flowers like hibiscus and petunias.
If you were zealous and planted early, Freedman says that’s okay, but you will want to keep a close eye on the weather and be prepared to cover your plants in case of a frost. However, if you really can’t wait to get a jump start on putting your green thumb to work, Freedman says you’re safe to plant hearty things like shrubs and trees, just be sure not to add any nitrogen (a common ingredient in fertilizer).
