NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Coroner has identified the victim killed in the crash in North Myrtle Beach Thursday morning.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard, 16-year-old Malia Heiman, of Loris, was take to Grand Strand Hospital where she died of multiple trauma at 8:53 a.m.
Several other victims were injured in the crash, but their conditions are not known at this time.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol website, the crash happened around 8 a.m. on SC 31 at mile-marker 6.
At one point, all northbound lanes and two southbound lane in that area were blocked. Those lane closures caused major traffic delays. At 9:30 a.m., North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue reported two lanes of southbound traffic were flowing. However, a detour for northbound traffic was in place as SC Highway Patrol directed drivers onto Highway 22. That detour was still in place late Thursday morning.
