HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A Longs man is behind bars after turning himself into police just hours after he shot his victim Thursday morning, according to police.

Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police says officers responded to the emergency room of Seacoast Medical Center in Little River about 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Police say a gunshot victim had gone to the hospital for treatment.

The victim, a 53-year-old man, was conscious and alert at the hospital and was able to identify the gunman who reportedly shot him to police. Detectives investigated and determined that the shooting occurred at a home on Sweet Bay Road in Longs.

Detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants for Courtney D. Gause, 24, of Longs, for the shooting. Lt. Denis says Gause turned himself into police within hours of the shooting. Gause is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

The victim is expected to recover from his injury.

A mugshot for Gause was not available when this article was published.
