HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Fire Rescue asks community members to stay indoors and not drive around their neighborhoods to look at weather related issues.

Battalion Chief Brian VanAernem explains rescue crews are working as quickly as possible to aid residents in evacuations and drivers simply wanting to see the flooding are putting themselves in danger. HCFR units have already rescued several occupants from vehicles that were caught in flooded areas, adds VanAernem.

If residents can not get out of their homes, officials ask that they call 911 and rescue crews will be sent to assist. Safety of area residents is a top concern for Horry County Fire Rescue, and crews want everyone to understand that moving water can very easily overtake any vehicle, making driving a dangerous mistake for anyone.

Currently Horry County Fire Rescue has set up a area Command at Little River Fire Station on Baker Street.
