MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The City of Myrtle Beach says violent crimes reported in 2014 were the lowest the city has seen in nearly 20 years.
The city reports that the number of documented crimes last year was the lowest in at least two decades, continuing a recent trend. A chart published on the Myrtle Beach City Government Facebook page shows the actual number of crimes in the city has been declining for the past 10 years.

The improvement is true for both violent and property crimes, report city officials. For example, in 1995, the city experienced 576 violent crimes, compared to 354 in 2014. That’s a 38 percent decrease in the number of violent crimes in the past 20 years, the Facebook post documents.
Property crimes showed a similar decrease, dropping from 4,816 in 1995 to 3,292 in 2014. That’s a 32 percent decline during the period, the post concludes.
