CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Conway Police arrested a man from Charlotte they say was caught driving a stolen car early Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call about the stolen vehicle showing up at the Murphy Express gas station near Walmart, and found the vehicle in question in the parking lot with two people inside. Officers say the driver put the car in reverse and slammed into the Conway patrol car and then drove away. No officers were injured.
Conway and Horry County Police chased the car before it stopped on U.S. Highway 501 near Carolina Forest, and were able to arrest 22-year-old Joseph Thomas of Charlotte. The second person in the car escaped, and police are still searching for him or her.
Thomas is at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, charged with failure to stop for a blue light, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, possession of stolen property, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
