HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – Holly Springs Police have a warning for parents: check your children’s Halloween candy.
This alert comes after a local child found a needle in a piece of candy.
The unsuspecting trick-or-treater received the Snickers fun size candy in the Lakeside subdivision on Saturday night, police tell WNCN.
The parents notified police after the child told them about the needle. The child was not hurt.

Holly Springs Police now urge all parents to be vigilant in checking each piece of candy. Officers say merely checking the outside wrapper may not be enough to detect tampering, and recommend breaking each piece open. That way, it can be thoroughly inspected.
Police tell WNCN this is “especially true” for Snickers and fun-size Snickers bars.
Officers from Holly Springs will also be working with other law enforcement officials who are investigating similar reports.
There have been reports from across the country of needles being found in Halloween candy.
