KINGSTREE, SC (WBTW) – On Tuesday, Anderson Primary and Kenneth Gardner Elementary School students in Kingstree received new back packs and school supplies.

The surprise donation came from The Kids In Need Foundation.

“A lot of houses were lost. Their houses were lost,” said Kenneth Gardner Principal Dr. Jennifer Gardner.

According to the Kids In Need Foundation, its mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need.

“So the flooding recently here is what brought it to our attention,” said Dave Smith, Executive Director.

The foundation has distributed more than $700 million in school supplies since its founding, directly benefiting 4.2 million students and more than 120,000 teachers annually. They are a national 501(c) (3) charitable organization founded in 1995.

“I can see in their eyes them saying, ‘is this for me?’ The back pack is the materials they may have lost, but the love, the sharing and caring makes the difference,” Gardner mentioned.

“You know what, I’m surprised every time I see that how surprised the kids can be about that,” Smith stated.

Over 900 students received new back packs and school supplies. The foundation says it will continue to work with the district with whatever they may need.
