Have You Heard, the board game “Monopoly,” as we know it, turns 80 years old today.
“Monopoly” was first concocted in the early 1900s and received a couple of patents but Parker Brothers bought the rights to the game (and to other similar games) on November 5, 1935, and began to market it on a broad scale.
“Monopoly” is the fifth best-selling board game in history behind only (from 4 to 1) Scrabble, Backgammon, Checkers and Chess.
Franklin D. Roosevelt won his unprecedented third term in the White House 75 years ago today.
Three rather big names in the entertainment field died 55 years ago today (11/5/1960).
Rockabilly singer Johnny Horton was only 35 when he died in a car wreck in Texas. Veteran actor Ward Bond was 57 when a heart attack killed him in Texas. Movie pioneer Mack Sennett, who was known as the “King of Comedy,” was 80 when he died in California.
Natalie Schaefer was born 115 years ago today.
Her best-known role was of “Lovey” Howell in “Gilligan’s Island.” She died at the age of 90.
Ronald Reagan was 83 when he wrote his letter that he had Alzheimer’s 21 years ago today.
He lived nearly ten more years.
Kris Jenner is 60 today.
