GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — Limestone College is planning a day of remembrance for a 20-year-old student shot and killed by a campus police officer at another school.
The college said it will have a special ceremony at noon Thursday at the Curtis Administration Building to remember Delvin Tyrell Simmons. The campus chapel also remains open for anyone to come who wants to mourn Simmons.
Authorities say a campus officer at Spartanburg Methodist College caught Simmons and another man breaking into cars Monday night. Investigators say Simmons struck the officer as he tried to drive away, and the officer fired.
Simmons’ uncle says he was an honor student. Limestone College says he was an early Childhood Education major and a member of the campus Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
