NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A transgender veteran living and working in Nashville posted a picture of herself wearing a shirt saying “Transgender Veteran: I fought for your right to hate me.”

“It’s indicative of how I feel,” said Carla Lewis.

The software developer lives in Antioch and says she wore the shirt for the office’s casual Friday policy.

“Usually I do something goofy, but every so often I’ll do something political,” she shared with News 2. “Since Veterans Day fell on a Wednesday and I wouldn’t be able to wear it, I decided to wear it last Friday.”

Since Lewis posted it on her Facebook page, the photo has been shared over 16,000 times and Lewis is being interviewed by TV stations and websites across the world.

“It’s been insane,” she said. “But it also has given me a platform I didn’t think possible.”
