LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Rediscover Downtown Lumberton held a clean-up day in the downtown area Saturday morning.
The Robeson County Clean and Green organization, City of Lumberton, and the Lumberton Visitors Bureau anticipates hundreds of cyclists who will be converging on Lumberton on as they bike across North Carolina.
More than 50 volunteers helped tidy up the downtown area. Volunteers included groups of concerned citizens, students, and scout leaders.
Though rainy conditions, volunteers didn’t let it keep them from making sure that downtown was cleaned.
The county provided trash bags to pick up trash and recyclable items from around buildings and water drainage.
Organizers say it was good to see younger people join in to help improve the city.
“As an adult who works with youth, they’re our future, they’re our next generation who’s going to take care of appearance and economic development and so they’re getting a first-hand taste of that,” Executive Director of Communities and Schools Dencie Lambdin said.
