HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Coastal Carolina University is warning students to stay indoors after a shooting killed one person near campus Wednesday night.
According to a Facebook post to the university’s page and a CCU alert emailed Wednesday evening at 7:25 p.m., a shooting incident took place near Technology Boulevard. The alert notes that a blue pick up truck was seen leaving the area headed towards Singleton Ridge Road following the shooting.
Horry County Police arrived to the scene of the shooting just after 7:30 p.m., according to Lt. Raul Denis.
Conway Police report the shooting occurred at University Suites near apartment 103. An altercation occurred around 7 p.m., before the shooting actually took place. Police add that a 21-year-old black male was shot and died at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released, and it is unclear if the victim is a student at CCU.
A follow-up alert from CCU officials states, “Campus does not appear to be in immediate danger. Due to police activity, please stay inside.”
An alert from CCU at 8:42 p.m. Wednesday stated, “Students living on campus are free to move about. Students on Technology Blvd/Singleton Ridge areas stay inside.”
